Marco’s interview after he signed the new contract.

Interviewer: I told you on Saturday, my son woke up last week, crying. When I went to him and asked him what was wrong, he said:”Papa, Marco can’t move to another country.” What do you say to him today?

Marco: Today I’d tell him he’s right and I’m happy I extended my contract, happy I have the privilege to go on the field for BVB. I’m very happy with the decision.

Interviewer: The rumor mill was crazy in the last few months, you signed with at least 8 English clubs, a few German ones and was transferred to Spain. We googled yesterday and the phrase “Marco Reus transfers” got over 42 million hits. Why have you extended your contract with BVB to 2019?

Marco: I’m not finished with BVB, with the fans supporting us, with other players. I simply feel that our time hasn’t passed, even though we are in a difficult situation. I’m committed, we fall together, we win together. It’s a decision for life, that’s why I thought about it for so long. I came to this determination that I like to play here. I hope to help BVB out of its current slump and to be on the offensive again.

Interviewer: You were injured a few times in the past months. Every time, you came to the club the next day and asked how you could help, what you could do to get the team moving upwards again. It shows how much you identify with the club. What does staying with the club and in Dortmund mean to you, the city, the club, the region, your family, friends?

Marco: I grew up here. I was born here. I played in the youth team, although it took some detours, I’m simply happy here. People who know me know I’m happiest when I’m around my family and friends. That’s worth more to me than many other things. Being in familiar surroundings gives me the freedom to concentrate on football. Now I’m looking forward to the upcoming weeks and games.

Interviewer: Be honest, how many minutes will it take before you go to read fans’ reaction on the internet?

Marco: *smiles* I’m still tied up, we have a training session. *smiles slyly again* I don’t know, there will be many things written, but I’m focused on the game on Friday because it’s an important one. We want to celebrate the first home win and get those important 3 points.”
