How is your analytical style different than others? What’s your main goal as an analyst?

I don’t know. Or rather, I don’t know how to explain this to others. I once talked to a chess player who said he doesn’t really plan or analyze positioning on the chess boards but has good intuition about the meaning of this positioning. Based on this feeling he starts to look explicitly into specific aspects and develops his decisions. I think Kasparov talked about something similar. I’m like that, too. When I watch a game, I develop a feeling for the game, for the teams and the players. It’s not like a real feeling but information not stored in words or pictures. When I analyze games, I translate this into words. It happens fast and without thinking, so it’s a nice asset. Also based on this I sometimes can even extract specific pictures and actions of the games, sometimes even longer sequences like a video and watch it in my head.

By the way, I don’t have any goals. I have about three hundred fifty things in the short- and medium-term I want to learn more about and reflect on, but that’s it. I am trying to become as good as I can and want in the things which are interesting to me. If I end as professional coach or analyst or a blogger or even ‘less’, I don’t really care. It doesn’t matter to me. I pursue understanding, not success.
